Remove Image Backgrounds Online Free

Remove the background from JPG, PNG and other common image files directly in your browser. Processing happens locally on your device, so the original image is not uploaded to FileTools.

Why the first run takes longer.

This tool uses the BiRefNet Lite 512 model in ONNX format. The image is resized for model inference, the model predicts a foreground mask, and the mask is then applied to the original image. That means the work is mostly local inference rather than an upload followed by server-side processing.

Benchmark methodology: timings should be reported separately for first run and warm runs because model loading can dominate the first measurement. Results vary with browser, device, image dimensions and available acceleration. FileTools does not present one device's timing as a universal speed guarantee.

Background removal without uploading your photo.

Select an image, let the browser run the segmentation model, then download the transparent PNG. Your source image stays in the browser during processing.

Background remover questions.

Does FileTools upload my image?

No. The background-removal workflow runs in your browser. The selected image is processed locally rather than uploaded to a FileTools server.

What does the background remover output?

It produces a PNG with transparency, which preserves the removed background as an alpha channel.

Why can the first image take longer?

The first run has to load the AI model and create the browser inference session. Later runs can avoid some of that startup work while the page remains loaded.

Does it work with JPG images?

Yes. JPG files can be selected as image inputs. The downloaded result is a PNG because JPG cannot store transparent pixels.

Will every background be removed perfectly?

No image segmentation model is perfect. Hair, transparent objects, fine edges, shadows and visually similar foreground/background regions can be difficult.

Why does the output have transparency?

Pixels classified as background are represented with transparency, allowing the foreground subject to be placed over another background.
